Cider is something new to me, though I do not drink much.
I’m slowly making my way up to the 4.99 bottle of vino at Trader Joe’s almost three years out of Northwest Indiana. The Cider Summit at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom gave me the chance to sample something I was totally unfamiliar with.
The Summit, which took place on Saturday Feb 7th, gave me a chance to try ciders of different types from around the globe. My game plan was to try at least three kinds: scrumpy, cider, and ice cider.
If you’re like me, you make it your mission to go to every restaurant in the city. If you’re human… you know that’s probably impossible.

Questioning the future of food may conjure up thoughts of technological innovations, unusual hybrid flavors and even soylent-like diets. But for Taste Talks co-founder, Daniel Stedman, the future of food is about slowing down and taking the time to appreciate the food on the plate. To some, his “futuristic” concept could be seen as a reversion, more of a glance into the past rather than a window to the future. However, Stedman’s desire to slow people down and bring the conversation about food back to the dinner table may be exactly what our future needs.
On the night of August 13th, we at Foodseum brought together four famous Chicago food experts to answer a seemingly straightforward question: Can we re-set the family table? Working in partnership with the SoFAB Institute, we set up the Chicago Culinaria Query discussion in order to foster a discussion in the local food community about our past and future, both as individuals and as a city. Not only did the event succeed in that regard, but it also proved incredibly entertaining for all present!
